You have a lot of options which all have their benefits and their cons.

Using granite is gaining a lot of popularity in remodeling. It is a fantastic natural stone that looks stunning in kitchens and bathrooms. It is extremely durable and can handle heat. This means you can place hot pots and pans on it without ruining the surface. This is something that will come in handy time and time again in the kitchen.

Another popular natural stone is marble, which is also a stunning material to be used. It doesn't have as many benefits as granite and it is more popular to use in the bathroom than the kitchen. Its main problem is that it is very expensive and most people cannot afford to use it in their homes.

Tile is also very widely used and it great because it has a huge variety. There are a lot of colors, sizes, and materials to choose from. If you ever crack a tile it is easy to replace and granite even comes in tiles. Using granite tiles can save you money on a granite countertop but still provide the amazing look granite gives. Tile can be used on both floors and counters and is used in bathrooms and kitchens as well.

The most important thing to consider is the price. You always want to stay within budget and be sure you are not spending money you don't have. Once you figure out your budget you can begin deciding on what material will be the best for you in your remodeling project.
