Undoubtedly, the shade should go with the lamp, so you should think about what style of shade will allow the proper amount of light into the room you want it for. You wouldn't , for example, want to buy a stylish dark lamp with a black shade that you like the look of, but then find out that it doesn't brighten your room enough.
