Advantages of Buying An LED TV

By Ollie Winters

Buying an LED TV is a large purchase, so you will want to do your research. You will want to learn why this type of television is best for your needs, and what to look for before purchasing. LED TVs have bright, vivid colors that aren't matched by any other type of television. They are great for a home theater room, but smaller ones can be used in a bedroom or living room.

LED TVs use the same screen technology as an LCD screen, but the backlighting is different. LCD screens are made by using a liquid crystal in between two glass panels. Behind the panels are Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps the shine light through the liquid crystal. By using a controlled current, the CCFLs either give off color or completely block out color. In an LED television, CCFL light is replaced by LED lights. These are smaller and give a wider range of color options.

LED TVs are available in either a back-lit or an edge-lit. Both have excellent pictures, but the back-lit offers better contrast. By allowing different areas to dim at once, the backlighting means there is greater detail on small objects and when there is a dark background. Edge-lit TVs have LED lights around the edge of the screen. Color is uniform across the screen.

Because of different locations of the lights, back-lit TVs offer better contrast. The LED lights on the back panel can be turned on and off independently. This allows for a greater contrast between black and white on the screen. The contrast on a edge-lit LED TV is better than other types of TVs, but is not as good as a back-lit version. Edge-lit screens are, however, able to be very thin and light, so they can be mounted on a wall.

Before shopping for an LED television, know how much you are comfortable spending. Different stores offer these TVs for widely different prices. Shop around and take note of the size and specs on TVs to find the best deal. Also know what size television will be best for your room.

Many different manufactures make LED televisions. Research each brand carefully to see which brands is better quality and will last longer. Also check to see what the warranty covers and how long it will last. You will want to protect your investment as long as possible, so a longer warranty might be worth paying extra for.

The viewing angle of a television is the range at which is has a clear image to viewers. The narrower the viewing angle, the less room there is to sit around it before the viewer loses color and contrast. Some manufacture's boast a full 180 degree viewing angle, but the best way to test is to sit in different spots around the TV and see for yourself.

You can save energy by buying an LED TV. They cost up to 40% less than running a similar sized plasma or LCD screen TV. This energy savings can help offset the higher price for the screen with lower electric bills.
