Hunting For The Right Bed Linen

By Tony Sprake

Bed linen today is available in numerous styles, colors and patterns. Whether purchasing for a crib, twin, double, queen or king-sized bed, there is a style that will fit perfectly with the surroundings. Decorators have found that the proper bed linen can make a huge difference in the overall presentation of a bedroom.

It is the thread count that determines the quality of these linens. If you like really soft sheets, you will want to purchase those with a 250 to 360-thread count. Anything over that amount has the same feel when placed on the bed.

When searching for the thread count, it will be found on the product's label. When shopping, it is printed on the plastic covering. You will find different materials used which include satin, silk, cotton, blends or flannel. Each kind has unusual qualities.

Plain cotton sheets are preferred by many people, however, they are more inclined to wrinkle when compared with others available. Flannel works very well for cold winter months. If you really want to feel luxurious, then silk or satin is the sheet of choice.

When purchasing bed linens many people make the mistake of not measuring their bed. Some mattresses are much thicker than others are and you need to make sure that what is purchased will fit. There is nothing worse than trying to work with sheets that will not stay in place because they are too small or too large.

All sheets come with a label that indicates washing instructions. The majority can be laundered in the washing machine. With silk sheets, dry cleaning is required, which sometimes leaves an odor when returned to the bed. This should be considered when you are purchasing bed linen. The beautiful patterns and colors that are available cannot be over emphasized. You can have a jungle, sea shore or any other decoration plan and have sheets that blend in very nicely.
