Looking For Professional Bed Bug Extermination

By Adriana Noton

The first step in bed bug extermination is identifying the presence of the insects in your home. The problem is most people haven't actually seen one in real life as they're small and active just before daybreak. However, they're not at all invisible to the naked eye. They can also be found nesting in many other places in your home other than the bed.

Some of the telltale signs that you got a problem are small, red and itchy bite marks on your skin in the morning. This is due to the fact that they like to feed on your blood. Your sheets also usually end up with tiny dark brown or red spots - fecal matter and blood respectively. To prove that they're around, use a strong magnifying lens and flashlight and search for them in wall cracks, furnishings, carpets, headboard, etc.

Often they stay together in groups. If you spot some of them, kill them by dousing them in either isopropyl alcohol or household bleach. Eliminate clutter in your room to make the hunt easier. Although you can find many do-it-yourself ideas on the internet, they're useless once the infestation has already gone out of hand. What you need to do is to turn to professional exterminators.

You can look for them by flipping through the pages of the local directory or by firing up your trusted search engine. It's also possible to admit to a relative or friend that you believe you got infestation at home. He or she may be able to recommend a reputable company, based on experience. Come up with a list of two or more companies so you may compare them with each other and pick the best one.

Inspect if the exterminating company you're considering is licensed to operate. It should also be a member of an association of professional pest controllers. Find out how long they have been operating and about how many clients they have had before. Speaking of which, get some references from past clients. Get in touch with them and ask for their opinion.

Your budget is one of the major role players in the decision-making part. But it's perfectly fine to pay extra to ensure that you get the best results. As soon as you're satisfied with the offer of a particular company, request for inspectors to be sent over your home. Look for proofs that they're from the company all right when they arrive. They must wear official uniforms, use an official vehicle and they must have their IDs.

Be there with the inspectors as they look these pests in your home. As soon as an infestation is confirmed, they will come up with the best solution. Make sure to ask questions regarding the action they're planning to take. Ask which chemicals they intend to use, their active ingredients, how they're applied and what side effects they have on humans.

Immediate bed bugs extermination is essential to prevent these insects from spreading to the rest of your home and even to your neighbors. After the treatment, ask when the company will send over inspectors again to check if the problem has been eliminated or not. You should also do your part in making sure that a re-infestation is kept at bay.
