The concept caught on quickly and by 1990, there were Ikea stores all over Europe, in North America and in Asia. The 1990s saw the introduction of Ikea childrens products and in recent years, the company has begun to expand into Russia and the Caribbean, with a new store in the Dominican Republic.
The new Ikea Shangai in Beicai is located in an area which is targeted for further commercial development during the upcoming 5 year plan for Shanghai and IKEA has announced its intentions to open an additional six stores in China in the next four years. Another IKEA store is planned for Shanghai, in the Baoshan district and is slated to open in 2014.
