Bedroom Decoration Ideas

By Mark Walters

Peace and tranquility are becoming ever more valuable in this high-paced world. The bedroom has long been a source of relaxation and quiet, the place where you lie down for a restful night. It is also the room that greets you when you awaken for the day, and it should provide a feeling of calm and rejuvenation to truly live up to its reputation. The room's layout is essential to providing these sensations, and following are some current trends in bedroom design.

More and more, people are turning their bedroom into a personal space, and one that reflects their personality. Eclectic styling is one such way. This design eschews the notion that everything in the room must adhere to the same style and period. Victorian era mirrors sit comfortably next to a modernistic television stand with a flat screen TV perched atop. This type of bedroom design is great for those who get bored with the current state of the room easily, as items can be interchanged on the fly without clashing.

Because bedrooms have increasingly become living spaces, many are being equipped with sitting areas. Today's bedrooms are actually reminiscent of a suite. A sitting area complete with a small table and a couple of chairs is a common sight in contemporary bedroom design. A relaxing chair is often set to the side, enabling you to read and relax after a trying day. Contemporary design also calls for the chair to be stuffed and oversized to match the current trend of fluffy, large comforters.

Current trends bear in mind that the bedroom is a place for rest and relief, and the color schemes involved pay attention to this. Shades inspired by the natural setting found outside of the home's four walls are given to the bedroom, colors such as medium and dark browns. Cherry and oak furniture does a wonderful job of adding this hue to the room. Leafy and verdant vegetation is hinted at with shades of green in the bedroom. The color is meant to be refreshing, so the shade of green should be light and contrast nicely the brown that it complements.

Current trends in bedroom design do not leave behind the idea that the room is for restful sleep and peaceful relaxation. They simply take into account that more time is spent in the room in modern times. A sitting area does not look out of place situated next to the bed and a television set. It is simply a sign of the times.
