Painting a room is indeed a great opportunity for the entire household members to pool their resources together and get into the act. Painting the room is more about preparing than the actual act of painting. The main purpose of painting the room is to give it a new look with perhaps with a new color of paint. Hence choosing the right color and the right quality of paint is very important. Paints usually come in two compositions, i.e. oil based or water based. The former is known as alkyd while the latter is known as acrylic.

If you are planning to apply paint to the interior of the house it is always better to use acrylic paint because they dry quickly. They can be cleaned much easily and they do not spread toxicity around while the paint is being applied. But before applying acrylic paint you have to ensure that the wall has not been painted with alkyd paints before. In such a situation it is better to stick to oil based paint because water based paints will not stick properly. The best way to check this would be apply a small bit of mineral spirits. If the wall has been previously painted with acrylic pain then nothing will happen, but if painted with alkyd the spirit will dissolve.

There are a lot of other questions which could come as you go about the job of painting a room. There could be a number of stains on the wall. How should the stains be taken care of? This problem can be solved with the right application of primer before actually painting the room. This is one of the most important tips for painting a room that should be kept in mind. You could also look into the possibility of adding a bit of the new color to the primer which will hasten the process of the actual painting of the room.

The next important thing is to choose the right color of paint for performing the job. Before doing the actual selection it would be advisable to buy some small cans of the various colors of paints that you may have in your mind. You should then paint the different shades of color on a small piece of foam board. Keep the foams in the rooms and have a look at it during different times of the day and also night using both natural colors and evening lamps. This will help you to zero in one the best color for painting a room with the paint of your choice.

The next important point that needs to be kept in mind is the price of the paint. Always keep in mind that it is better to go in for premium brands though they might cost you a bit more. It makes better sense to go in for costly and quality paints because they last that much longer and they will save you the cost of painting after a few months. It is always better to go in for paints with higher percentage of binding agents and pigments. These paints have better fade resistance and fewer coats would be needed for painting a room satisfactorily.

Choosing the right kind of brushes and rollers also form a part of the various important tips for painting a room and they should be given the importance that it deserves. Coming to brushes it would be always better to go in for a synthetic brush because they tend to grab more paint and they never go out of shape during application. While choosing roller it would be better to first have look at the surfaces of the walls. If the surface is rough it would be better to use a longer nap roller and on the contrary for smoother wall surfaces the smaller nap roller would suffice.
