Lighting Techniques in Studio Rooms

By Nia Lawrence

Lighting a studio room requires some skills and basic knowledge about the different types of lighting fixtures and their corresponding uses. The main objective of lighting the studio is to produce close to natural light ambiance. There are strategies and techniques to achieve this effect. One of them is to use the appropriate lighting Adelaide fixtures. Aside from that, these lights must also be placed at the right position in order to create the desired effects.

Lighting the studio to produce a natural daylight atmosphere requires the use of specific types of lights. You can not just install any kind of light inside the studio to illuminate the room. The process of creating the ideal light effects is not as simple as that. Aside from using specific lights, these lighting fixtures must have the correct wattage to produce sufficient brightness inside the room. They should be installed at the right angle towards the subject to eliminate dark shadows.

In most cases, a combination of compact fluorescent lamps and tungsten lights are used because these lights produce the best results. In studios, there are basically three main types of lights to use. One of them is the key lights. This is the lighting fixture to use to highlight the subject. The subject could be the news reporter, the talk show host, and the actors. If there are several subjects, then you may have to use several key lights to highlight each character. For shows with only one main subject, like in news reporting, key lights are ideally placed at 45-degree angle from the center line of the subject and the camera.

Another type of light to use is the back light. The main purpose of back lights is to sufficiently brighten the background but in a softer tone in order to separate the main character from the background. This is further used to create a well-balanced illumination in the whole area. These are usually installed at the sides of the main subject, as well as in the front and back areas of the characters. Other than back lights, fill lights are used to get rid of dark shade created by body parts like the nose and the hair, including shadows created by personal accessories like eyeglasses and long earrings.

When setting up the lighting Adelaide fixtures in studio rooms, it is not enough to use the correct types of lights. It is also important to install these lights at the right position and strategic places to create natural light ambiance to the whole place.
