A Guide To Designing The Baby's Room

By Ping Johnson

An infant's birth in the life of a couple is such a joyous, much awaited occasion. Excited mothers and fathers, to while away the waiting time, find ways of beautifying their newborn's room. Some people might find that this project is a bit daunting, considering that it involves hours of planning and strategizing to get everything right.

Some new mommas and poppas have joyfully discovered that they can apply themes to their child's room as part of their decorating project. So it's really no wonder that moms and dads have so much fun in preparing the "nest" for their little one. parents should remember that the theme should be significant to the development of the child as he or she grows older.

Along with a well thought out design for the room, mothers and fathers should make sure that child safety measures are applied in the nursery to keep the little one safe. The safety of the child is the main priority even in interior design; thus, parents should ensure that all furnishings they will use in the nursery are guaranteed child-safe.

A mural is a design component that evokes a fun atmosphere, and it can be used to great advantage in the nursery. So, if the parents desire something inexpensive and personalized, they can paint the walls of the newborn's room themselves (using non-toxic paint, of course).

One simple way of incorporating interior design concepts in the little one's room is by using bright colors against more subdued hues. To accomplish this, mothers and fathers can pick out key components in the room, such as the little one's crib, door, windows, ceiling, or the walls and paint it a bright color, while leaving the rest of the room painted in a subdued hue, such as white or cream. There are some mommas and poppas who like to paint clouds on the nursery's ceiling. These mommas and poppas will also sometimes paint in glow in the dark stars so that when the lights are out, their children will be able to see a depiction of the night sky.

Other whimsical ideas include creating nursery motifs featuring cartoon characters or murals depicting natural scenes, such as underwater themes or western motifs. Small children and infants can be over-stimulated with too much bright colors, so mom and dad should utilize these hues sparingly in decorating the little one's room. mothers and fathers can instead apply pastel and other soothing colors for the child's room.
