When I proposed to my girlfriend, we decided to begin looking at apartments so that we could get a nicer place together, and as we saw our new apartment, we liked everything about it, except for the carpet and we knew that we would want some shag area rugs to cover it up. It's not just that the carpet in our new apartment was ugly, but it had some odd stains that I knew were not going to come out easily and I did not enjoy the idea of walking around barefoot on it.
And we had both enjoyed the newish shag carpet that I had had in my old college apartment, so we felt that exploring shag area rugs was the way to go. It was a little unpleasant for the first week or so after we moved in, and we kept our shoes on continually, and tried to keep all of our furniture off of the carpet.
While we could have asked our landlord about getting new carpet, we were both a little scared of our grouchy old landlord and thought that he might spit in our faces or triple our rent if we dared even mention the carpet to him. We figured we would just deal with it on our own, and the perk was that if we bought some nice rugs, we could take them with us when we were able to move out into a hopefully much nicer place.
We went down to the closest carpet store, thinking that it would be the easiest thing in the world to find a nice shag, buy it, and have it delivered within a few days. But we were certainly mistaken, as we couldn't find anything that we liked in the store, and all of the prices were shockingly high. We went home, disappointed and dreading seeing the ugly, ugly, carpet in our apartment that we now knew would be in our faces for a while to come.
My wife pulled out her laptop while we were watching television and a few minutes later, told me that she had ordered the perfect rug and it would come within a few days. I couldn't believe it had been that easy, but she showed me the website and also pointed out that they had some fantastic outdoor rugs for patios that would be perfect for when we someday moved out and bought our own home, since we would need more room for the baby that she was expecting!
