Christmas Entertaining!

By Laura Latham

The winter season is a time of frosty winter evenings; breezy winter commutes to work, open-air ice-skating, and the chance of being met by the year's first snowflake. A hot glass of mulled wine will help you deice and snuggling up in your new woolly scarf will keep you snug. It's a time when we want to hang out with our loved ones and make them feel special by creating unusual gift ideas for the perfect present. It's the season we host dinner parties for our friends and family and those special occasions when we just relax and unwind.

Preparing for a dinner party can be chaotic and can get pretty heated in the kitchen, especially when we are trying to impress our friends. We think about how we're going decorate the table and spend a ridiculous amount of time choosing the right colour scheme, napkin decorations, and thinking of unique handmade gifts ideas to give the guests. Making sure you have sufficient beverages for your guests, preparing the food and getting it on the table before your guests start getting a too ravenous and ultimately making sure everyone has a fantastic and special time.

Not only do we have to think about hosting dinner parties, there's the tradition of the Christmas dinner. The all-important roast: Succulent turkey, piping hot gravy and crispy yet fluffy roast potatoes. Everything must be perfect on this special day. Even the smallest things can make a difference to the mood of an afternoon, from your choice of napkin decorations to the gifts in the Christmas crackers. It's a time when we can show off our Christmas handmade gift ideas and give really great presents to our loved ones. As long as everyone's enjoying themselves though and wearing their Christmas hat then it's bound to be a great time!

Not only do we get to eat some splendid food over the festive season, we also have the exciting task of decorating the home. It's the time of year when you can pull out that dusty cardboard box from the broom cupboard and open it to find your Christmas decorations glistening away. It's the moment when you can place those unique handmade baubles on the grand evergreen that's been placed in the corner of the room and decorate the room with sparkly tinsel. You must remember to move the pottery away from the fireplace to make a path for Father Christmas when comes by in the early hours of Christmas morning.

Once Christmas has been and gone and you've received that special little gift it's time for the celebration season to carry on and revel in the coming of the New Year. Celebrate by partying, watching the intense explosion of fireworks cheering at the stroke of midnight. Make your new year's resolution, cheers the year and reminisce on the fun times, the not so fun times and those straight up entertaining moments. Drink to future success and the exciting and new journeys of the New Year.
