Change the present header with the use of a saw that has a metallic blade that can cut through the nails to further remove the jamb. Take away all the pieces of board by using a blade that is designed for woods. Do it carefully to have a shallow cut. Utilize the part of the drywall which is over the door to make a frame for another header.

Pull off the current door by removing it from the moldings. A specific gap will be created in doing this that can be further used to access the wedges. The clump of nails can be taken away from the shims by using a saw. Remove the drywall from the header as well as leaving a margin of about two to three inches under the ceiling. You can remove the it using another reciprocating saw. Cut away all the studs to make enough room for the frame. Cut the nails that join the studs to the soleplate as well.

Know the height of your header and add three and one fourth inches to the length and after, add it to the height of your soleplate. This is essential especially if the floor is carpeted. If no carpet is present, brackets could be installed simply to the floor.
