How To Choose The Right Draperies And Drapery Hardware NJ For Your Window Treatments

By Amy Stewart

If you are trying to change the look of one of the rooms in your home, one of the easiest ways to accomplish this is to change the window coverings that you are using. The right drapery choice can transform a room as well as providing more practical benefits. If you are changing the coverings on your windows you may also need to change the drapery hardware NJ that is being used as well. Here are some things to consider.

In the past, there was not a massive selection of hardware to choose from but this has changed. Now, rods, tracks, hanging hooks and other items come in a wide variety of options to choose from.

One thing to consider is lighting. If you are replacing the window coverings on rooms where people will be sleeping, you will want to make sure that you choose drapes or curtains that will help keep out sunlight. You will also want to make sure that the hardware you use will help keep the drapes fitting close to the windows so that light cannot come in around the edges.

If you are trying to keep your heating bills under control and find that your windows are drafty, you may want to consider insulating panels. These are often heavy and thick and are designed to keep the temperature controlled air in your home as much as possible. If you want this kind of curtain for a window in your home you will need to make sure that your hardware can support the weight.

You should think about how heavy the draperies are that you will be hanging. If you want a light, delicate look you may want to choose hardware that is not overly thick or industrial. You could either go with hidden hooks that move along a track or with a thin rod and small rings that will slide back and forth easily.

While custom curtain panels can often be made to work with the hanging system you prefer, prefabricated options will already be made with a particular hanging system built in. In some cases this may be a length of fabric tape that runs along the top of the panel and sewn to create pockets that hooks will be inserted into. These hooks slide along a flat track. Others may have grommets or other hardware built into the top of the panel so that it can slide along a round rod.

Installing the hardware can take a bit of planning in order to do correctly. If you are not sure where to place the curtain rod you should first figure out where you want the bottom of the curtains to be. Then, you should find the length of the curtain panels and determine how far up on the wall they will reach. You then know where the curtain rod needs to be placed.

If you want to look for custom draperies and are not sure where to do so, you may find some inspiration and help at your nearest fabric or home decor store. An interior designer may also be able to listen to your needs and your preferences and come up with some options that would work well for both your needs and your budget.
