The house I live in has been in the family for generations. It was my great grandparents that came in right of the boat without cash or prospects; was how the story went but with some luck and a lot of skill my great grandfather earned a living as an upholsterer. My grandparents were raised in that very house then my mom was too raised in the house. At last I was conceived and raised in the house along with everyone else. Now that I'm a fully grown adult still residing in this family legacy of a home I can see it's time to get some remodeling done. Long Island home remodeling should be left to the pros but if I can save money I'll do something myself.
I always loved to see myself as a bit of a handyman but I'm nowhere nearly as talented as my father was. He had the ability to complete any job related to carpentry. In addition he would finish any plumbing work and any tile work that had to be done. His method was to move from room to room and slowly redo each and as time passed I began helping in on his projects.
Since my father has passed the house continues to need work to be done. He's no longer around but I decided to tackle the basement kitchen on my own instead of calling someone to do it for me. I thought with my experience I could get it all done at the fraction of the cost.
As it turned out the entire job was a complete disaster. I'm not the carpenter my father was by far. I was unable to measure out and put up the new Sheetrock flush, I slashed open my hand removing the old linoleum floor and I couldn't even get the new counters through the doorway. Needless to say I should've just called a professional to begin with.
If I would've just called Town and Country things could have gone a lot smoother. Long Island home remodeling should always be left to the professionals. I ended up having to pay double the cost after I screwed up so bad the first time. Don't make the mistake I did; just leave remodeling work to people who know what they're doing.
